Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer
Job Description
We are a manufacturing company that specializes in producing street sweepers. Our customers provide chassis for each sweeper, and we offer various body styles based on the size of the chassis. We handle custom orders for clients, which can lead to varying levels of design complexity. The primary responsibility of this position is to read and interpret wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical systems on vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret wiring diagrams.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems on vehicles.
- Design and develop electrical components for manufacturing.
- Collaborate with team members to share ideas and feedback.
- Support on-vehicle testing, prototyping, and production.
- Build harnesses for testing (production, bench testing, R&D support).
- Create harness drawings and schematics using Visio/Solidworks Electrical.
- Design and document wire harnesses.
- Convert older drawings to meet current standards.
- Create new part files, assemblies, and drawing files using CAD systems.
- Develop control systems using Codesys software and IFM hardware.
- Program ladder logic and function blocks.
- Work with CANBUS (J1939, CANopen) systems.
Essential Skills
- Experience in electrical system design and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of electrical engineering and wiring principles.
- Skill in using diagnostic tools such as multi-meters and test lights.
- Experience with PCAN or other CAN-tracing software.
- Ability to size wiring, fuses, and other electrical components.
- Familiarity with connectors and tools like Deutsch DT, DTM, and HDP series.
- Comfort with on-vehicle testing and production support.
- Proficiency in CAD systems including Solidworks and AutoCAD.
- Experience creating harness drawings and 3D routing.
- Knowledge of Codesys software and IFM hardware.
- Understanding of ladder logic and function block programming.
- Experience with low voltage DC applications (12V, 24V systems).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering is required.
- 3+ years of experience in designing/troubleshooting electrical components in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with heavy industrial equipment design and/or automotive experience is preferred.
- Ability to work well in a team and accept constructive feedback.
