Job Title: Process Engineer
Job Description
The Process Engineer will develop new part processes, optimize recurring job processes, and provide technical support to the Machine Shop Manager. This role includes CAD, fixture design, tooling, programming, and documentation of the process for set-up personnel and operators.
Responsibilities
- Write and modify programs to control CNC machinery using ESPRIT or Mastercam, and input correct tooling and setup parameters.
- Understand engineering drawings and schematics to ensure correct part dimensions and tolerances, translating designs into machine-readable code.
- Set up machines for production runs, including selecting and installing tools, fixtures, and materials, and ensure machine components are calibrated to required specifications.
- Run test programs to ensure machine operations meet specifications, make necessary adjustments, and perform backups.
- Assist set-up personnel and operators with technical support as needed.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds, and speeds based on material types and job requirements.
- Monitor tool wear and develop processes to replace tools as needed.
- Ensure final products meet specifications by inspecting parts at different stages using measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Perform basic machine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubricating, and checking for wear and tear.
- Troubleshoot machines or program issues to maintain production efficiency.
- Maintain accurate records of programs, tool settings, and machine performance.
- Review solid files and drawings during the RFQ process or upon receipt of order for new parts as the initial step in developing a manufacturing process.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and production to identify recurring jobs for optimization.
- Report on production issues and suggest improvements to ensure smooth operation.
- Work closely with engineers, machinists, and other team members to meet production goals and resolve technical challenges.
- Assist in the development of new manufacturing processes.
- Ensure all work is done in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain a safe working environment by following machine safety protocols and wearing appropriate protective equipment.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a Machine Shop environment.
- At least 5 years of CNC programming experience using ESPRIT or MASTERCAM.
- Strong knowledge of Multi Axis CNC machines, Horizontal Mill, Lathe, and live tooling.
- Highly skilled in the development and optimization of CNC Machining processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Preferred: Previous experience with Fanuc controls.
- Experience with process improvement, Mastercam, Solidworks, tooling, continuous improvement, manufacturing process, blueprint reading, and operating mills and lathes.
Work Environment
Work schedule is Monday through Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm, with a 4/10's schedule allowing for Fridays off. The position involves 75% programming and 25% process improvements, which may shift based on production needs. The team includes one expert-level programmer and three other team members who perform programming but are not experts.
