This role is tied to a pending contract, and is therefore contingent upon contract wins with Leidos customers. Interested candidates can expect the role to be filled anywhere from 2-3 months of the time of the job posting. This is not an immediately available position, but will become available, should Leidos secure a future contract win that is currently pending.
The position is based out of Colorado, but is largely remote in nature for the time being. Some regional travel is expected (~20-25%), so candidates should be located in or adjacent to Colorado in order for Leidos to best serve our utility customer. In the future, the design engineering lead may help to provide support to a team based out of an local office.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00

In this role, You can expect to:
- Oversee design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for Leidos electric utility customers
- Interact directly with our utility client on a frequent, as-needed basis; including meetings at customer facilities and local travel as needed
- Play a role in business development opportunities, including building and submittal of proposals
- Review work provided by Client and assess requirements of scopes.
- Perform engineering calculations such as: structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
- Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design
- Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements, assessing and developing large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, work permit development, easements, and ROW applications
- Collaborate with other design engineering leads to ensure utilization of resources and best practices that adhere to high quality standards
- In the future, you can expect to play a role in the hiring process for your team, and you'll provide technical support to your team as needed and guidance for program decisions
- 5+ years of relevant work experience performing electric distribution design engineering either in a consulting environment for electric utilities or working directly at an electric utility
- Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited institution will be preferred; Relevant experience can be considered in lieu of engineering-specific degree
- 1 year+ of demonstrated experience in a leadership role
- Experience with the execution of distribution projects from kickoff through design approved, including Customer interaction and Process documentation
- Ability to demonstrate proficiency with the NESC
- Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, as some customer-related travel could be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates)
- Candidates should possess valid U.S. driver's license
- Previous QAQC experience
- Experience providing estimated costs, development of a BOM, calculating the CIAC
- Demonstrated history of successful Customer Interaction
- Experience with design tools such as Pole Foreman, O-Calc, Spida-Calc
- Experience working with Xcel Energy is strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills, written and interpersonal communications skills and supporting of customer advocacy
