Job Title: Pharmacy Technician
Job Description
As an Enteral Pharm Tech, you will work as an assistant to the Nutrition Services Department. You will help process all facets of patient orders from initiation of therapy through the final pick-up of equipment at the end of therapy. You will assist clinical staff in the ongoing provision of care for assigned patients and be mainly responsible for enteral therapy patients serviced by the Nutrition Services Department.
Responsibilities
- Assist with intake of referrals, confirmation of insurance, and Payor authorization requests.
- Update patient demographic information and calculate and collect estimated patient co-payments.
- Communicate with patients and designated caregivers regarding supplies and other related aspects.
- Determine monthly supply needs based on received information and document usage discrepancies.
- Chart all pertinent patient and inventory information in electronic progress notes.
- Generate equipment pick-up requests within 48 hours after discontinuation of use.
- Follow all Payor requirements for orders, authorization, required documentation, and refills.
- Validate that there is a current Physician order and Payor authorization for all items dispensed.
- Produce and validate a complete one-touch billing package for all items dispensed.
- Process completed Nursing Home billing packages within three days of the specified service period end date.
- Assist with monitoring and resolving the status of outstanding deliveries, pick-ups, and delivery tickets within two weeks of the scheduled delivery date.
Essential Skills
- Customer service skills.
- Data entry proficiency.
- 2+ years of experience in a pharmacy, hospital, or other medical setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Pharmacy technician certification is highly preferred.
- Ideally, 2 years of college in the medical field.
- Experience with prior authorization, insurance, and inventory management.
- Evidence of good communication skills, integrity, initiative, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to type 30 words per minute.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel).
