Chemical Project Engineer


Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Chemical Engineer to join our team in the Greater Peoria area. Our facility specializes in manufacturing dispersion, blending, powder coating, and specialty suspension vinyl resins. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, construction, and startup of various projects aimed at improving environmental sustainability and safety.


Responsibilities

  • Evaluate systems for collection and drying to eliminate solid waste to landfill.
  • Design, construct, and start up projects related to the collection, concentration, drying, and packaging of PVC waste streams.
  • Develop an engineering scope for the implementation of environmental goals by 2025.
  • Design a Safety Instrumented System (SIS) shortstop system for two reactor lines, aiming to replace toxic materials with non-toxic alternatives.
  • Determine capital requirements for 2025 installation.
  • Design a sulfite flow meter system.
  • Comply with all plant safety, health, and environmental requirements.
  • Work with plant personnel to define project requirements, develop designs, and follow project management procedures.
  • Select and manage contractors to complete assigned projects on time and within budget.
  • Collaborate with the plant team to provide startup reviews (PSSR’s), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and P&ID development for projects.

Essential Skills

  • BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of project experience in a refinery or chemical plant.
  • Knowledge of industry design standards (ANSI, API).
  • Ability to design SIS systems
  • Experience in Process Safety Management.
  • Ability to drive projects independently.
  • Experience managing contractors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with SAP for purchase orders (training available if needed).

Work Environment

The position requires working 40 hours a week, primarily on a day shift schedule, with potential for irregular hours during project phases. The role is based in a chemical manufacturing plant. No travel is required.
