Pharmacy Technician - Order Entry (part time)
Part Time: 24 hours/week
Monday (preferably 3pm-11:30pm)
Saturdays and Sundays from 9am - 5:30pm (3 weekends/month)
Job Description
The Order Entry/Customer Service Pharmacy Technician is responsible for order entry and triage. They handle incoming calls and direct them appropriately, communicate with LTC facilities, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians, and take drug orders via faxes and other forms. They also answer questions on medications and decide whether it makes sense to place orders based on patient profiles. Additionally, they prepare documents by highlighting pertinent information and send them to order entry. They are responsible for entering medication orders efficiently and resolving issues with orders by understanding the Automatic Dispensing Unit.
Responsibilities
- Handle incoming calls and direct them appropriately
- Communicate with LTC facilities, pharmacists, nurses, and physicians
- Take drug orders via faxes and other forms
- Answer questions on medications
- Triage documents and orders based on patient profiles
- Prepare documents by highlighting pertinent information
- Enter medication orders efficiently (40-45 per hour)
- Resolve issues with orders by understanding the Automatic Dispensing Unit
- Call on all new admissions to LTC facilities
- Transfer orders to retail pharmacies
Essential Skills
- Knowledge of SIG codes
- Pharmacy Technician certification in KS
- Customer Service experience
- Data Entry skills
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in retail or closed door pharmacy
- Pharmacy Technician Certification
Work Environment
This role is based in a quiet, production-based office environment. It is a repetitive role with a focus on technology. The position is part-time, up to 24 hours per week, with flexible 2nd shift hours on Monday (preferably 3pm-11:30pm), and requires work on at least 3 weekends per month (Saturdays and Sundays from 9am - 5:30pm). The group is responsible for the front line of the pharmacy, handling all incoming phone calls, faxes, and electronic orders, including triaging documents and orders and transferring to retail pharmacies.
