Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of fabrication and machining processes, tooling, and fixtures to produce fully finished precision parts for fluid control devices used in various industries such as medical, industrial, and material handling. This role focuses on fabrication within a high mix environment and involves working with multi-axis turning, milling work centers, and drill/tap machines. The engineer will support the design of tools and fixtures in Solid Edge or Solidworks, provide production cost estimates, and help select and purchase cutting tools and production equipment. Additionally, the role involves validating production processes and equipment in accordance with ISO 9001 and customer specifications, developing process control plans, and leading troubleshooting for process failures.
Responsibilities
- Provide cost estimates for engineering time, capital, tooling, and fixtures required for new processes.
- Ensure equipment designs are safe and provide ergonomic operation for manufacturing operators.
- Meet cost, capital, and product performance goals with the process.
- Ensure minimum effective module sizes to allow volume linearity of capital where possible.
- Develop assembly and test line concepts that allow flexible running of multiple product families with exchangeable or common tooling, labor linearity across multiple staffing levels, and efficient capital utilization and high line output.
- Achieve 5 Sigma Process capability Cpk of 1.67 for key product characteristics (KPCs) and Cpk of 1.33 for other dimensions.
- Use PFMEA to ensure processes with low Risk Priority Numbers (RPNs), focusing on design solutions, tooling solutions, and quality checks.
- Apply error proofing at operations and layered approaches with other processes where feasible.
- Develop process control plans (PCPs) for KPCs, KCCs, etc., with appropriate SPC.
- Create problem response charts for key product and process failure modes.
- Design processes for maintainability, including planned and preventative maintenance (PM) plans.
- Develop and release process workbooks and associated operator standard work documents for key review meetings.
- Raise ECO process packages, assign actions, and follow up to ensure closeout.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering - Manufacturing or Mechanical
- Experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer within Fabrication
- Experience developing manufacturing processes
- 3D CAD design using Solidworks or Solid Edge
- Project Management experience
- CAM programming experience
- Machining and CNC experience
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Valve experience
- Experience selecting and purchasing equipment and tools
Work Environment
The candidate will report to a team lead and work with a team of 3 manufacturing engineers. Typical working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with some flexibility. The role involves close collaboration with product development engineers, quality engineers, and operators to ensure efficient product manufacturing. The company specializes in the design and manufacture of pneumatic and fluid control valves, valve systems, and customized products for various industries, including medical, analytical, factory automation, test and measurement, and process control. The role offers exposure to machining, assembly, and fabrication processes, with a project management component to enhance skill development. Benefits include 10 days of PTO, 6 standard paid holidays, and access to Udemy after 6 months.
