Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a highly skilled Controls Engineer to program machine controllers to meet all customer specifications, ensuring safety and efficient operation. You will work with Siemens and Allen Bradley PLCs, design component layouts, and ensure designs are safe, reliable, and simple. This role involves minimal travel, as customers come onsite for commissioning and run-off, typically lasting about 5 days.
Responsibilities
- Review control designs with Mechanical Project Engineer and Coordinators prior to build.
- Obtain quotations for electrical control enclosures, push button stations, etc., at the time of control design submission for customer approval.
- Evaluate inside/outside design capabilities, supply accurate information, and support documentation to keep designs on time and to customer specifications.
- Work efficiently with shop personnel in the build, startup, debug, and run-off of machines.
- Provide necessary support for Service and Training personnel during machine startup in customers' plants.
- Ensure machine safety in compliance with both US and Canadian standards.
- Commission machines on the floor.
- Work with existing controls engineers to help create standards for newer team members.
Essential Skills
- PLC Programming - Siemens & Allen Bradley
- Experience programming machine tools equipment from the ground up
- Proficiency in programming HMIs
- Circuit design experience (pneumatic, hydraulic, or fluid)
- Fanuc
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with E-Plan (training will be provided)
- Electrical Engineering Degree
Work Environment
You will be working in a dynamic environment focused on the automotive industry, specifically in manufacturing crankshaft polishing machines. The company operates as a Tier 1 supplier to major automotive companies like GM and FCA. The engineering team consists of 8 members, including 2 other controls engineers, mechanical engineers, and coordinators. The role averages 45 hours per week with overtime paid for any hours worked over 40. If travel is desired, a 15% increase is provided.
