Job Description
We are seeking a diligent QA Technician to ensure the quality and safety of our products. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various quality assurance tasks, including weighing finished products, examining packaging labels, and performing microbiological sampling. This role offers exposure to a wide range of tasks within our quality and production department.
Responsibilities
- Weigh finished products in specified intervals; record deviations from standard; inform Production Supervisor to make proper weight adjustments.
- Examine packaging labels to assure correct labels are used for the product being manufactured (correct UPC for the item number, allergen statement, code date, etc.).
- Examine package fabrication of pouches, cartons, and shipping containers to ensure their quality.
- Examine code dates on pouches, cartons, and shipping containers to ensure their accuracy.
- Knowledge of hold/release procedure for nonconforming product or packaging.
- Knowledge of SQF standards, HACCP & Food Safety initiatives.
- Perform hourly metal detector checks for potential foreign material in product (CCP).
- Perform Critical Quality Point (CQP’s) checks.
- Conduct sensory evaluation of ingredients and finished products for quality.
- Perform Allergen Control and necessary swab verifications.
- Perform chemical analysis/tests on ingredients and finished goods.
- Perform and record QA verifications and QA document controls.
- Conduct microbiological sampling, plating & results interpretation on ingredients/raw materials, finished goods, and environmental monitoring.
- Perform production process verifications.
- Sample raw material ingredients per the QA procedures.
- Receive and sample analysis of ingredient tankers such as viscosity, Brix, etc.
- Knowledge of Good Lab Practices and ordering/maintaining lab supplies inventory.
Essential Skills
- High School Diploma and 1+ year of experience with a Quality function or BS in a scientific concentration (preferably within food quality).
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Experience with Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, Office, etc.).
- Knowledge of food safety, inspection, audit, quality assurance, HACCP, food production, food manufacturing, food science, and SQF.
- Ability to perform documentation writing and document control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Comfortable working in an environment handling allergenic materials (Milk, Soy, Eggs, Wheat, Peanut, and Tree Nuts).
- Ability to cover additional shifts when needed (potentially float to 2nd shift for random coverage).
