Job Title: Design Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Design Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units. You will direct and perform drafting work associated with the design of these systems, create written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids. Additionally, you will specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, etc., to meet contract requirements and industry standards, ensuring successful integration with other systems by collaborating with other mechanical/electrical interfacing engineers.
Responsibilities
- Design various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units.
- Direct and perform drafting work associated with the design of these systems.
- Create written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids.
- Specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, etc., to meet contract requirements and industry standards.
- Ensure successful integration with other systems by working with other mechanical/electrical interfacing engineers.
Essential Skills
- Design and refurbishment of hydraulic, pneumatic, and/or cooling water systems.
- Mechanical engineering expertise with a focus on piping.
- Proficiency in 3D Modeling, particularly with Siemens NX software (used 90% of the time) and AutoCAD (used the remaining 10% of the time) for piping.
- Project management skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 1-2 years of professional experience or 1-2 years of internship and/or co-op experience in related fields.
- Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, AWWA, and other American/international industrial standards is a plus.
- CAD proficiency required, with Siemens NX preferred.
Work Environment
You will be working in the energy industry, specifically focusing on hydro power units associated with dams and government projects. The local team in Charlotte comprises engineers who support various mechanical engineering groups including turbines/generators, Controls/Automation, and power systems. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with remote work on Monday and Friday, and in-office work on other days. This is a long-term contract opportunity with plenty of work, making it an excellent opportunity for a junior engineer to engage with complex projects and government contracts extending into 2026.
