Job Title: Mechanical Engineer


Job Description

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to design various auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units. The role involves directing and performing drafting work, creating written specifications, specifying components to meet contract requirements, and ensuring successful integration with other systems.


Responsibilities

  • Design auxiliary hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems for hydroelectric turbine units.
  • Direct and perform drafting work associated with the design of these systems.
  • Create written specifications for the design, manufacture, and installation of hydraulic governor equipment, hydraulic cylinders, pressure vessels, and auxiliary systems/skids.
  • Specify pumps, motors, valves, fittings, oil, instrumentation, etc. to meet contract requirements and industry standards.
  • Ensure successful integration with other systems by collaborating with other mechanical and electrical interfacing engineers.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in mechanical engineering design.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software, preferably Siemens NX.
  • Understanding of power generation systems.
  • Project management skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 1-2 years of professional experience or equivalent internship/co-op experience in design and refurbishment of hydraulic, pneumatic, and cooling water systems.
  • Knowledge of ANSI, AWWA, and other American/international industrial standards is a plus.
  • CAD proficiency required, with Siemens NX preferred.

Work Environment

This role offers a hybrid work schedule with work-from-home days on Mondays and Fridays. The position is part of a local team in Charlotte that supports various projects related to hydroelectric power units, including turbines, generators, and control systems. The work environment is dynamic, offering opportunities to work on complex projects with government contracts extending through 2026.
