Job Description
The Lab Supervisor will be involved in the daily operations and administration of a clinical lab specializing in Chemistry testing. This role is essential in overseeing department activities, ensuring adherence to laboratory standards, and leading a dedicated team of professionals.
Responsibilities
- Oversee activities of the department, distribute and assign work, determine priorities, and schedule non-routine procedures.
- Perform supervisory functions for the assigned staff including interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
- Perform advanced and specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques. May duplicate work of others to confirm test results, re-evaluate methodology, make recommended changes, and assist in test interpretation.
- Determine if further testing should be done on samples or if tests should be repeated.
- Check and approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.
- Initiate quality-control measures and monitor the quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.
- Complete special projects as requested, including surveys, statistical reports, studies, and research.
- Complete training and competency assessments according to established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
Essential Skills
- Laboratory skills in Chemistry and Clinical Laboratory Science.
- MLS (Medical Laboratory Scientist) certification.
- ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification.
- Experience with Automated Chemistry and Special Chemistry.
- Supervisory skills.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a Life Science, preferably Chemistry or Medical Laboratory Science.
- ASCP Certification - MLS or Chemistry C (ASCP).
- 4-6 years of Clinical Lab Experience in a high-complexity testing lab.
- Experience in Clinical Chemistry lab (preferred).
- 1-2 years of Supervisory experience.
