Job Title: Protection and Control Engineer


Job Description

Actalent is seeking to hire an engineer who will perform protective relay studies and schemes to troubleshoot, update relay settings, and develop and configure new relay settings for power utility, renewable power generation plants, and industrial clients. The role will support projects ranging in high voltage relay settings from 115kV to 345kV systems, including substation, transmission, distribution, power generation, and renewable facilities. The engineer will create protection and control drawings and schematics and work with applicable software such as ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, MathCAD, Excel, SKM, and EasyPower. Project engineering responsibilities include client interaction, mentoring junior engineers, collaborating with other internal departments, and managing projects of varying durations from multiple weeks to multiple years across the country.


Responsibilities

  • Perform protective relay studies and schemes.
  • Troubleshoot and update relay settings.
  • Develop and configure new relay settings.
  • Support high voltage relay setting projects ranging from 115kV to 345kV systems.
  • Create protection and control drawings and schematics.
  • Utilize software such as ASPEN OneLiner, CAPE, MathCAD, Excel, SKM, and EasyPower.
  • Interact with clients and subcontractors.
  • Mentor and work with junior engineers.
  • Collaborate with other internal departments.
  • Manage projects of varying durations across the country.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a protection and controls engineer related to 115kV-345kV utility systems.
  • Experience with relay schemes and settings, troubleshooting, and calculations.
  • Experience with electrical studies and/or protective relay settings.
  • Knowledge of short circuit and symmetrical component analysis, time current coordination, protection scheme and criteria/philosophy development, relay settings, logic development, and integration with SCADA systems.
  • NERC compliance and arc flash experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering (Master's degree can reduce required experience).
  • Proficiency with ASPEN OneLiner, MathCAD, and Excel.
  • Experience in designing protection and control drawings and schematics.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with software such as AcSELerator Quickset (SEL-5030), CAPE, SKM-PTW, EasyPower, ETAP, RSCAD/RTDS.
  • Background with SCADA systems.
  • Professional Engineering license (preferred but not required).
  • Experience with direct client/customer-focused engineering projects.
Compensation:$160000
