Actalent is currently seeking a qualified Substation Engineer who will function as a mid-level engineer or technical specialist in substation design. This role involves the design of distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission level voltage classes ranging from 13kV to 500kV. The engineer will develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design, and interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design (protective relays) and/or physical design.
- Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Prepare a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables.
- Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Collect, assimilate, and manage data for engineering work.
- Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
- Understand and adhere to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Recognize, define, and resolve problems within the assigned area.
- Provide direction and guidance to others.
- Assign tasks to and coordinate with other internal/external team members on less complex projects.
- Initiate contact with other disciplines as needed to identify and coordinate details of the work.
- Actively seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership.
- Provide support to business development or pursuit activities.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program.
- 3+ years of experience in protection & controls and/or physical substation design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other relevant design software.
- Experience in power distribution, utility design, and high voltage electrical design.
- Strong understanding of protection & relays, wiring diagrams, engineering specifications, and schematic design.
- Experience in project coordination.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- EIT certification preferred, but not required.
- Experience with 230-500kV systems is a bonus.
- Protection and controls experience is a bonus.
Work Environment
This position offers a hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, with the flexibility to adjust these days as needed.
