Job Title: Environmental Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking an Environmental Engineer to direct CAD standards, implement QA/QC, revise plan development, and lead field reviews, erosion and sediment control (E&S), and stormwater calculation design. The ideal candidate must be able to prepare plans, route flows, design grading plans, perform complex calculations, and prepare Storm Water Management Plans.
Responsibilities
- Lead or assist in field data collection and surveys.
- Plan and design erosion and sediment control and stormwater management systems.
- Prepare and process wetland and waters permitting.
- Design culverts to channel water past obstacles or to subterranean waterways.
- Write comprehensive reports and draft detailed plans.
- Conduct regular inspections of active land-disturbing activities in accordance with the Construction General Permit (CGP) under the Virginia Stormwater Management Program (VSMP).
Essential Skills
- Stormwater management design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Minimum of 1+ years of design experience in engineering or environmental consulting.
- BS degree in environmental engineering or a related field.
- Ability to prepare plans, route flows, design grading plans, and perform calculations for storm water plans.
- Experience in erosion and sediment control planning, report writing, plan design, environmental compliance, utilities, permitting, grading, hydrology, and hydraulics.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in traffic control planning, NPDES permitting, and construction compliance.
- Virginia DEQ Certified Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Plan Reviewer certification or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
- Virginia DEQ Certified Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management Inspector certification or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
Work Environment
You will work alongside ecologists, engineers, and other professional environmental staff. The role offers remote flexibility, with the requirement to be based out of Virginia or North Carolina. The company operates with a small team of under 30 employees, providing an entrepreneurial feel with opportunities to wear different hats, exposure to more aspects of the business, and potential for growth and ownership. The company has a flexible schedule and does not require weekend work. Additionally, there are years of backlog with Dominion work and federal subcontracting work (NAVFAC), ensuring a steady flow of projects through 2028.
