Job Title: Field Service Technician
Job Description
We are looking for skilled Field Service Technicians for a packaging company that specializes in the food and beverage industry. These technicians will be traveling 90-100% of the time, installing and commissioning packaging systems. They will work on automated machine systems within filling, labeling, blow molding, dry end, and inspection. The role involves troubleshooting Allen Bradley / Siemens PLCs, training customers on new equipment operation and maintenance, and collaborating with customers and sales staff to ensure equipment is up and running efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Receive trip assignments from inside schedulers and make travel arrangements to arrive on time according to customer requirements.
- Train customers for successful operation and maintenance of equipment, including showing operators how to make changes for different size or format packaging, and providing preliminary invoices for customer signature.
- Work under the direction of technicians to start-up new machines, check power systems and wiring, observe lockout/tagout processes to check machine components functionality, ensure proper product movement, and communicate with internal staff to solve technical problems or project issues.
- Interview customers to determine machine problems, perform basic troubleshooting on machine functionality, and verify the location of the problem.
- Perform hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs on specified machines to ensure they function correctly according to specifications; coordinate with customers and the Parts department to order any needed parts.
- Troubleshoot and modify or edit programs of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
- Audit and document missing or bypassed safety devices on machines and replace or repair as needed.
- Prepare concise, accurate, professional, and timely Equipment Acceptance Reports, Service Work Reports, Expense Reports, and other support documentation for customer visits; communicate with internal staff to report on service activities; complete and submit reports within 3 weeks after the end of a job.
- Periodically inspect customer spare parts inventory and recommend additional parts orders as needed for successful equipment maintenance and operation.
Essential Skills
- Troubleshooting Allen Bradley / Siemens PLCs with at least 2 years of experience.
- At least 2 years of machine field service experience.
- Proficiency in PLC programming, electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with pneumatics, schematics, preventive maintenance, and assembly.
- Ability to perform hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in field service environments.
- Knowledge of HMI and automation systems.
Work Environment
Candidates will be traveling 90-100% of the time, working in a manufacturing environment installing new equipment and repairing already commissioned equipment. The typical work schedule is 2-3 weeks on with 1 weekend off, averaging 55 hours per week.
