Job Title: Field Engineer
Job Description
As a Field Engineer, you will travel to new construction projects such as K-12 schools, clinics, data centers, and pharma/bioscience buildings to perform basic point-to-point checks on building automation systems. These systems include chiller plant controls, HVAC, energy monitoring, lighting, indoor air quality, and more. You will use an iPad to verify settings and run diagnostics, ensuring systems are operational. You will follow and update drawing packages as needed, focusing on site startups for the DDC side of equipment and commissioning support.
Responsibilities
- Initiate, install, troubleshoot, and optimize customer systems utilizing advanced Direct Digital Control technology.
- Serve as the local contact for technical issues and lead in the field.
- Offer effective solutions for increasingly complex system issues.
- Provide turnkey project delivery on small to medium projects.
- Ensure systems operate properly, including controls, sensors, and software.
- Load software, configure trends, alarms, and reports.
- Implement time management strategies to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Communicate and document the status and details of the project for the customer.
- Provide site-specific training to owners/operators on the complete system.
Essential Skills
- Experience in Building Automation, HVAC, or a technical field.
- Capable of climbing ladders or using lift equipment over 8 feet above grade.
- Capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
- Valid and current Driver’s License and insurability by the company’s insurance.
- Proficiency with computers and smart technology.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or Technical/Business School Certificate/Diploma in HVAC, Controls, or related field preferred.
- Experience with building automation software such as WebCTRL.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networks including wireless technology.
- Proficiency in using an electrical multi-meter.
- Good understanding of common HVAC systems (RTUs, air handlers, VAV boxes, Chillers, Boilers).
- Ability to read and understand HVAC mechanical prints.
- Ability to check out/commission common HVAC controls devices (sensors, valves, damper motors, relays).
Work Environment
You will work on-site at new construction projects, mainly schools, hospitals, data centers, and biopharm buildings. Collaboration will be with internal engineers, contractors, and client representatives. Initially, the role will be based in Madison, WI, with travel to other markets like Milwaukee and Green Bay. You will travel 70% of the time, with the remaining 30% spent working from the Madison office or from home. The company provides a laptop, equipment, and vehicle.
